BELGIUM MODEMUSEUM PROVINCE OF ANTWERP hosts "Madame Grès: Sculptural Fashion" through February 10, 2013. The exhibition is an overview of the work of the Parisian couturier, Madame Grès (1903–1993). Madame Grès felt herself as much a sculptor as a fashion designer: 'I wanted to become a sculptor. For me, working with stone or fabrics is the same thing.' She draped or pleated the fabric directly onto the model, without artificial devices and mostly without using scissors and needles, so that she also came to be known as the pioneer of seamless garments. In the fifty years of her career, her work went through a range of stylistic periods, from Hellenistic, draped evening dresses to modern, minimalist daytime garments and stylish beachwear. 28 ORNAMENT 36.2.2012 Nationalestraat 28, Antwerp 2000, Belgium; 32.3.470.2770; www.momu.be/en. FRANCE MUSÉE DES ARTS DÉCORATIFS presents "Van Cleef & Arpels: The Art Of Fine Jewelry" through February 10, 2013. The creations of this legendary jewelry house will be highlighted in the Nave at Les Arts Décoratifs, with four hundred pieces that have designated the fame of Van Cleef & Arpels since 1906. These prestigious pieces will be shown with archive documents and drawings in an exhibition design by Jouin-Manku. The history of Van Cleef & Arpels is studded with technical inventions passed from generation to generation. 107, Rue de Rivoli, Paris 75001, France; 33.0.1.4455.5750; www.lesartsdecoratifs. fr/english-439. GERMANY THE SCHMUCK MUSEUM IN PFORZHEIM shows "Small Size, Great Aesthetics: A Hundred and One Rings" from March 8 through June 9, 2013. Albeit small, rings are works of art in their own right, displaying a multitude of shapes and designs and serving disparate purposes: as wedding bands or friendship rings, as a sign of mourning or a symbol of power and status. Some are primarily decorative, while others also have a more profound significance. During some periods, they had to be worn by decree; today, they are often determined by the prevailing fashion. The exhibition will give an impressive overview of the huge diversity of these small-format works of art. Jahnstrasse 42, Pforzheim d-75173, Germany; 49.0.7231.39.21.26; www.schmuckmuseum.de. GREAT BRITAIN THE FASHION AND TEXTILE MUSEUM hosts "Hartnell To Amies: Couture By Royal Appointment" through February 23, 2013.
